Potentially affected vehicles were produced for the 2023 through 2024 model years between February 6, 2023, and November 10, 2023. Just under 32,000 vehicles have been recalled stateside for an 80-amp fuse produced by Intercable Automotive Solution.
Incorrectly manufactured fuses may lead to a contact interruption or increased triggering resistance, meaning that systems connected to the 80A fuse might become inoperable. Think restraint functions, propulsion, and instrument cluster. The risk of an underhood fire can’t be ruled out either.
The German automaker started investigating the aforementioned condition back in September 2023. At the time, Mercedes was aware of non-starting vehicles at its assembly plants rather than on the road.
Mercedes-Benz AG hasn’t confirmed any field reports, service reports, or warranty claims related to this defect in the United States market thus far.
The supplier corrected the condition back in November 2023. Merc has eight different part numbers for the fuse boxes equipping the affected vehicles rather than the suspect fuse. In no particular order, said part numbers are listed as follows: A2545402126, A2065407464, A2235403856, A2235403756, A2235403956, A2975407830, A2975408030, and – finally – A2975407930.
Dealers have already been informed about the recall, but owners will have to wait between now and April 16 to receive mailed notifications.
The remedy comprises a properly manufactured 80-amp fuse. Owners can take matters into their own hands by entering the 17-character VIN on the automaker’s recall website or the NHTSA’s recall website.
The affected vehicle population ranges between the Mercedes-Benz C 300 and the Maybach-branded S 680, meaning that we’re dealing with engines ranging from a 2.0-liter turbo I4 to a much larger twin-turbo V12. The C 63 S E Performance also packs a four-cylinder turbo, but it’s a very different engine from that of the C 300.
The C 300 also happens to be the most affordable of the bunch, with Mercedes charging $46,950 for the standard rear-drive spec or $48,950 for the C 300 4MATIC. Both are rated at 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet (400 Nm), whereas the C 63 develops a combined 671 hp and 752 lb-ft (1,020 Nm).
The torquiest Merc in production today, however, is the GT (4-Door Coupe) 63 S E Performance. Its plug-in hybrid setup is based around a twin-turbocharged V8, and all told, this configuration pumps out 1,082 pound-feet (1,467 Nm).
