In May 2023, the Subaru Corporation unveiled a revamped electrification strategy, announcing three new battery-electric vehicles to debut by 2027, including a three-row electric SUV. Production for this crossover will be entrusted to Japanese automaker Toyota, based in Kentucky.
A recent report from the Japanese publication Best Car hints at another addition to Subaru’s electric lineup an electric version of the Forester. Unlike the forthcoming three-row SUV and the bZ4X-twinned Solterra, this proposed Forester variant is purportedly a Subaru original.
Although specifics remain undisclosed, examining Subaru’s electrification roadmap suggests the plausibility of an in-house developed Forester EV. With plans for in-house BEV production commencing at the Yajima plant in 2025 and the Oizumi facility following suit between 2026 and 2028, Subaru aims to produce 400,000 BEVs by 2028.
Subaru’s collaboration with Toyota extends to battery procurement, enabling ambitious production targets and facilitating the development of compelling electric vehicles like the anticipated Forester EV.
While details remain speculative, Best Car speculates a substantial driving range of 700 km, positioning the Forester EV as a formidable competitor in the burgeoning electric SUV segment.
