Mercedes-Benz aimed to pioneer a new class with high-ride sedans or Sport Utility Sedans, as they termed them. Initially previewed by the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury in 2018, the project was intended for production but has since been shelved due to doubts about the Chinese market’s reception.
Despite strong sales in China, Mercedes has concerns about introducing such an unconventional model there. This decision reflects a shift in focus towards simplifying the lineup and reducing costs.
The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury, powered by four electric motors producing 738 horsepower, was designed for the Chinese market and based on the EVA2 platform.
However, Mercedes deemed it too complex and expensive to produce. Instead, Mercedes may introduce Mythos models in China, positioned above the Maybach, debuting in 2025.
