Ford, among numerous other automakers, intends to commence production of new electric vehicles equipped with Tesla’s exclusive charge port, referred to as the North American Charging Standard (NACS). T

his transition, slated to commence around 2025, aligns with Ford’s commitment to adapt to evolving industry standards. In line with the industry trend, Ford plans to provide adapters for select existing electric models outfitted with a CCS-style plug.

Ford stands out as one of the frontrunners in delivering these adapters to consumers. CEO Jim Farley announced via his social media channels that customers will soon have the option to reserve a complimentary fast-charger adapter.

This initiative will grant Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E owners residing in the United States and Canada access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network.

In line with Ford’s original pledge to provide adapters by spring 2024, the timing remains consistent. Following his initial announcement, Farley later expanded on the details, stating that all current owners of Lightning and Mach-E models are entitled to receive an adapter.

Reservations will be verified through the vehicle identification number, with each VIN eligible for one adapter. Ford has committed to covering the shipping costs.

Car and Driver sought clarification from Ford regarding whether the adapters will be standard or optional for new electric F-150 or Mustang SUV purchases. Ford responded that additional information on this matter would be disclosed at a later date.
