Maserati has unveiled its latest marvel, the 2024 Maserati GranCabrio, a convertible rendition of its stunning GranTurismo. While slightly heavier and possibly pricier than its coupe counterpart, the allure of open-air motoring might outweigh these considerations for enthusiasts seeking the ultimate driving experience.
The GranCabrio boasts a sleek cloth soft top that can be lowered in just 14 seconds and raised in 16 seconds, even while cruising at speeds of up to 31 mph. Operating the top is effortless, with the option of gesture controls or a button on the central screen.
Moreover, Maserati offers the soft top in five distinct colors: black, blue, gray, red, and the unique “greige” hue. Though the top’s mechanism occupies some trunk space, an expandable divider compensates by providing an additional 2 cubic feet of storage when the top remains raised.
Innovatively, Maserati equips the GranCabrio with a neck warmer feature that emits warm air through vents in the front seats, ensuring comfort during cooler top-down drives.
A removable wind deflector can be installed over the rear seats to minimize wind turbulence. However, the convertible’s claimed curb weight is 359 pounds heavier than its coupe counterpart, potentially leading to a compromise in performance.
To maintain performance standards, Maserati initially offers the GranCabrio exclusively in the top-tier Trofeo trim, housing the formidable 542-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine, also featured in the coupe variant.
This powertrain, derived from the renowned “Nettuno” engine found in the MC20 supercar, delivers power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Speculations arise regarding the possibility of an electric Folgore version in the future, as well as the potential introduction of a lower-powered V-6 model akin to the coupe’s Modena trim level.
While Maserati has yet to disclose the GranCabrio’s pricing, considering the GranTurismo Trofeo’s starting price of $191,995, it’s anticipated that the convertible’s base price will surpass the $200,000 mark, reflecting its premium status and luxurious offerings.
