Tesla has introduced a new update for its flagship models, incorporating ambient lighting and a front bumper camera, among other enhancements.
The inclusion of the front bumper camera was anticipated following Tesla’s elimination of ultrasonic sensors, with the Cybertruck being the first to receive this feature. The bumper camera assumes critical importance in facilitating Tesla’s parking assistance functionalities.
Following the removal of ultrasonic sensors in 2022, concerns arose regarding the ability of Tesla’s camera-based Tesla Vision system to fully replicate their functionality.
Speculation regarding the addition of a front camera to augment the existing setup gained traction, with some anticipating its inclusion in the Hardware 4 sensor suite. However, subsequent revelations confirmed that no additional camera was planned alongside Hardware 4.
Further fueling speculation, initial images of the Model 3 Highland suggested the presence of a front camera in the lower section of the front spoiler.
However, subsequent disappointments followed the refreshed Model 3’s delivery, revealing no such feature. Nonetheless, indications suggest that Tesla internally contemplated integrating a front bumper camera, corroborating previous rumors.
Teslascope reports that Tesla will soon equip the Model S and Model X with a front bumper camera, with implementation slated for this month.
Renowned for providing accurate insider information, Teslascope’s predictions carry weight, indicating imminent changes. Tesla’s past practice of delaying feature announcements aligns with Teslascope’s cautious approach.
While the Model S and Model X serve as Tesla’s flagship models, they have lagged in feature parity compared to newer models like the Model 3. Consequently, Tesla’s decision to enhance them reflects its commitment to staying competitive in the evolving electric vehicle landscape.
However, the introduction of the front bumper camera may also precipitate its eventual integration into the Model 3 and Model Y, potentially impacting sales as customers await feature parity across the lineup.
