Despite maintaining a dedicated fan base, the reality in the United States reveals a stark contrast in sales between the Toyota GR Corolla AWD hot hatchback and the GR Supra sports car in 2023. Toyota sold nearly twice as many GR Corolla AWDs (5,567 units) as GR Supras (2,652 units).
While the GR Supra sits atop Toyota’s performance lineup in the US, boasting a starting price of at least $46,440 for the 2.0-liter version and going up to over $65k for the 45th Anniversary Edition, the GR Corolla begins at a more modest $36,500.
Interestingly, despite its higher price tag, the GR Supra outperformed the new Nissan Z, which only sold 1,771 units in the US market in 2023, despite being priced lower at $42,310.
However, the disparity in sales may not solely be attributed to pricing. Some consumers may find the GR Supra lacking in exterior appeal compared to traditional American sports cars like the 2024 Ford Mustang GT.
While the GR Supra lacks a high-performance variant to rival competitors like the Mustang GT, digital car content creators envision potential solutions to enhance its styling shortcomings.
