Infiniti has unveiled the second official teaser for the upcoming Infiniti QX80, confirming a significant departure from its predecessor by swapping out its V8 engine for a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, a move mirroring its competitor, the Lexus LX.
This engine, part of Nissan’s VR engine family, shares lineage with powerplants found in prominent models like the Nissan GT-R’s VR38DETT and the Nissan Z’s VR30DDTT motors.
The newly confirmed V6 engine is slated to deliver robust performance figures, boasting 450 hp and 515 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the previous-generation QX80’s 5.7-liter V8, this represents a notable increase of 50 hp and 102 lb-ft of torque.
Power will be efficiently distributed to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic gearbox featuring a 40% wider gear ratio range. This expanded range, coupled with the turbocharged engine, promises enhancements in both fuel efficiency and performance, though precise metrics remain undisclosed at this time.
Complementing the powertrain upgrades, the QX80 receives a host of aerodynamic enhancements and innovative suspension systems.
Inspired by the Infiniti QX Monograph Concept, the new exterior design incorporates active aerodynamic elements such as active grille shutters, optimizing airflow and reducing drag, particularly during highway driving.
The introduction of electronic air suspension and Dynamic Digital Suspension marks significant additions to the QX80’s capabilities.
The electronic air suspension facilitates variable ride height adjustments for various driving conditions, offering enhanced comfort and off-road capability, while the Dynamic Digital Suspension actively mitigates body motion, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride.
Preview images of the QX80 reveal an opulent design language reminiscent of Range Rover styling cues.
Flush door handles, signature LED lighting, and the brand’s new logo adorning the vertical grille highlight the vehicle’s modern aesthetic. Further details regarding wheel size and features like self-leveling Infiniti logos on the wheels remain undisclosed.
The QX80 is set to be officially revealed via a live-streamed event on March 20, followed by its debut at the New York International Auto Show.
With anticipation building, Infiniti promises additional teasers leading up to the reveal, hinting at features like an illuminated fascia and a premium 24-speaker Klipsch Reference Premiere sound system.
