We hold a strong appreciation for both the Rivian R1T and R1S models. They stand out as remarkable electric vehicles, boasting impressive performance. However, with starting prices surpassing $70,000, they remain relatively costly options.

Enter the forthcoming R2, designed to offer a more accessible and affordable alternative. If the purportedly leaked specifications hold, Rivian may already have a winner in the making.

According to Twitter user Chris Hilbert, detailed information regarding the upcoming R2 was uncovered on Rivian’s website using the web inspector tool. Although Rivian subsequently removed the content, rendering it unverifiable, the company declined to comment when questioned.

However, with the official unveiling of the R2 SUV scheduled for March 7, the accuracy of this information will soon be revealed.

So, what can we expect in terms of specifications? Allegedly, the R2 SUV will have a starting price of $47,500, or possibly even $47,000, as per inconsistent information on the website.

It is said to offer a range of up to 330 miles and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3.0 seconds. While the base R2 may offer slightly slower acceleration and a shorter range, the prospect of acquiring such performance for under $50,000 is undeniably appealing.

In terms of dimensions, the R2 is purported to accommodate five passengers and measure 185.6 inches overall, with a 115.6-inch wheelbase. This would make it approximately 15 inches shorter than the R1S and 5.5 inches shorter from wheel to wheel, placing it in the same size category as the Tesla Model Y.

Despite its compact stature, the R2 is expected to provide 9.8 inches of ground clearance, resulting in a 25-degree approach angle and a 27-degree departure angle.

Given that these details allegedly originated from Rivian’s official website and the company’s reluctance to address the leak, it is reasonable to assume their accuracy. Nevertheless, the truth will be revealed definitively come Thursday.
