Dodge’s foray into electric vehicles (EVs) marks a significant shift in the automotive landscape, with the highly anticipated next-generation Charger set to debut as both an EV and an internal combustion engine (ICE) variant, albeit without the iconic HEMI V8 engine.
Scheduled for release in the second half of 2024, the Charger represents a bold step into the era of electric muscle cars. Drawing inspiration from the Charger Daytona SRT concept, the production model retains key design elements while incorporating Stellantis’ STLA platform, capable of supporting both EV and ICE powertrains.
Despite the absence of the HEMI V8, the Charger promises formidable performance, featuring dual-motor setups and lithium-ion battery packs ranging from 85 to 118 kWh. Variant nomenclature, such as the 340 and 440, reflects power output in kilowatts, offering up to 671 horsepower for EV models.
To address HEMI nostalgia, Dodge introduces the Fratzonic Chambered exhaust system, amplifying V8-like sound through innovative technology. Meanwhile, the ICE variant boasts the Hurricane V6 engine, delivering up to 500 horsepower for traditional enthusiasts.
As Dodge pioneers electric muscle cars, it maintains its legacy of performance dominance, boasting industry-leading models like the Charger SRT Redeye and Durango SRT Hellcat. With the Charger’s arrival, Dodge reaffirms its commitment to delivering unrivaled power and performance across its lineup.
