Two decades ago, Fiat made waves at the Geneva Motor Show with the debut of the Trepiuno Concept on March 4, 2004, during a time when the event reigned as the pinnacle of the auto show calendar.
Now, FCA Heritage commemorates the success of that concept with a special edition designed to encapsulate the essence of the modern 500’s design.
This initiative is part of the Reloaded by Creators project, which previously introduced a unique Fiat Multipla and a final celebratory one-off Alfa Romeo 4C. However, unlike those ventures, this Fiat 500 recreation will be produced in quantities. The exact production numbers and final design details remain undisclosed.
Drawing from the original Trepiuno’s inspiration, which featured a distinctive seating arrangement accommodating three adults plus one, the new special edition mirrors the concept’s color scheme both internally and externally, although the original rear seat design is not replicated precisely.
Roberto Giolito, former head of the Fiat Group’s Advanced Design team and now head of Stellantis Heritage, emphasized the significance of the metallic white hue used in the concept’s presentation.
It played a pivotal role in highlighting the design team’s meticulous attention to the core styling elements of the 1957 500, a theme carried forward in the modern special edition.
While the contemporary special edition diverges from a direct replication of the concept, it incorporates similar wheels, paint, and trimmings. Notable features include retro Fiat logos against a blue background, adorning chrome wheels, and a two-tone white and reddish-brown cabin with full-grain leather upholstery.
Each seat will feature “Trepiuno XX” logos embroidered on them, while the dashboard will showcase sketches of the 2004 concept by Giolito.
Production quantities and pricing details have yet to be disclosed by Fiat, although each special edition will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Stellantis Heritage.
While availability in America remains uncertain due to its basis on the hybrid rather than the Fiat 500e electric vehicle, Fiat is currently accepting expressions of interest for this distinctive model.
