Tesla’s Senior Account Manager, Clement Maguet, has confirmed a unique variant of the Model Y for the French market. By reducing the seating capacity to just two, Tesla crafted a van-like Model Y, exempt from value-added tax.

In France, standard VAT stands at 20%, applicable to automobiles. However, a loophole exists for vehicles with two or three front seats and none in the back, utilized professionally, exempting them from VAT.

While termed utility vehicles, the mere removal of rear seats doesn’t grant this status. Thus, Tesla adjusted the seating layout to comply with the regulations.

Exclusive to the French market, this two-seater Model Y boasts a cargo capacity of 2,158 liters, marginally higher than its five-seater counterpart. Targeting commercial vehicle dominance, Tesla eyes a market traditionally dominated by diesel-powered vans, presenting a compelling electric alternative.

With a WLTP driving range of up to 565 kilometers, Tesla’s foray into commercial electric vehicles marks a significant step, aligning with its broader mission of sustainable transportation.
