Mercedes-Benz is currently conducting tests on prototypes for an electric compact sedan, poised to be the next-generation CLA-Class, as previewed by last year’s Concept CLA-Class. The German automaker has confirmed sales will commence in 2025, suggesting a potential debut as a 2026 model in the U.S.
Recent sightings of another prototype strongly suggest it’s an AMG-tuned variant. Notable features include large wheels housing a formidable brake package, with cross-drilled rotors that nearly fill the wheels.
The rear sports extensive camouflage, possibly concealing an active rear wing. Noteworthy design elements, such as taillights integrating Mercedes star logos, echo those seen in the Concept CLA-Class.
The interior, as previewed by the concept, is expected to boast a sleek single panel along the dash, integrating digital screens for the gauge cluster, infotainment system, and front passenger, along with climate control vents.
This redesigned CLA-Class, alongside other forthcoming models in Mercedes’ next-generation compact family, will ride on the all-new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA).
Designed to accommodate hybrid and fully electric powertrains, the MMA platform will debut with the CLA-Class, extending to encompass models up to the C-Class segment. Prototypes of the electric C-Class have also been spotted undergoing testing.
Reports from our photographer suggest that the prototype for the AMG-tuned CLA-Class features an all-wheel-drive, evident as all four wheels churn up snow upon acceleration.
Part of Mercedes’ streamlined, compact range, the revamped CLA-Class will anchor the Entry Luxury tier alongside redesigned versions of the CLA-Class Shooting Brake, GLA-Class, and GLB-Class. Anticipate each model to offer its AMG-tuned variant, catering to enthusiasts seeking both luxury and performance.
