JLR is preparing to introduce an electric version of their iconic Range Rover later this year, followed closely by an electric iteration of the related Range Rover Sport.

The electric Range Rover Sport is scheduled for release in 2025, followed shortly after by two additional electric Range Rovers positioned in the same segments as the Velar and Evoque.

A prototype of the Velar-sized electric SUV has already been spotted, signaling JLR’s commitment to electrification. These electric SUVs are part of JLR’s revised electrification strategy, aiming to launch six EVs by 2026, including the four Range Rover models and two Jaguars.

The first electric Jaguar will be a sporty sedan, with a large SUV and flagship sedan planned for the future. While plans for an electric Discovery Sport and baby Defender by 2026 were delayed, they have not been abandoned, according to Autocar.

The electric Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will utilize the MLA platform, the same platform used in the current gas-powered SUVs. This electric platform will feature an 800-volt architecture, enabling DC fast charging and support over-the-air updates and range-maximizing apps.

Smaller models like the Velar and Evoque will utilize the EMA platform, while electric Jaguars will use the JEA platform. While Range Rovers, Discoveries, and Defenders will continue offering gas engines, all future Jaguars will be EV-only.

Jaguar has announced the discontinuation of its F-Type sports car after 2024, with other gas models like the XE, XF sedans, and F-Pace crossover also ending production. Jaguar is expected to phase out its electric I-Pace without a direct successor, focusing on higher-end EVs to command higher transaction prices.
