A recall has been issued for certain 2020 Ford Explorers due to potential issues with rearview cameras. Specifically, just under 2,000 vehicles manufactured from May 19, 2020, to May 27, 2020, at the Chicago Assembly Plant may experience distorted rearview images or a failure to display the image caused by insufficient electrical conductivity within the printed circuit board.
The affected rearview camera, bearing part number LB5T-19G490-AC and supplied by Magna Electronics of Holly, Michigan, will be replaced with an improved version featuring part number LB5T-19G490-AD. Ford became aware of this issue in February 2020, prompted by warranty claims related to intermittent camera operation.
Owners will be notified via first-class mail between April 8, 2024, and April 12, 2024. Those who incurred expenses for replacing the rearview camera before the recall are eligible for reimbursement until June 30, 2024, with proof of payment required.
Despite the recall, Ford has not received any reports of accidents or injuries associated with this issue.
