Ford has issued a recall for 1,505 replacement headlight assemblies designed for the 2017 to 2019 model year F-Series Super Duty trucks due to a manufacturing defect.
These headlights were found to exceed the maximum light output permitted under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, which prompted safety concerns identified by Transport Canada in March 2023.
Following a thorough investigation, Ford traced the issue to a deviation in the low-beam module lens molding during the manufacturing process. This deviation resulted in higher photometric intensity at specific test points, leading to noncompliance with safety standards.
To address the issue, Ford has implemented stricter quality control measures, requiring its tier-1 supplier to conduct photometric inspections on all replacement headlamps before distribution.
Dealerships have been instructed to remove and replace any affected headlamp assemblies from their inventory and notify owners of potentially affected vehicles about the recall.
Despite the recall, the F-Series Super Duty lineup continues to offer robust performance and powertrain options, including the high-output diesel variant with 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque, reaffirming Ford’s commitment to delivering reliable and safe vehicles to customers.
