Subaru's Vehicle Availability In Australia: Improved Stock And Continued Wait Times

Subaru Australia reports an enhanced stock situation but acknowledges lingering wait times for certain models like the Forester and Crosstrek hybrids, stretching up to six months. While the overall supply of vehicles is deemed “reasonable” by the company, specific models are experiencing lengthier delays.

The Forester Hybrid and Crosstrek Hybrid face the lengthiest waits, currently ranging between four to six months, an improvement from nine to ten months last year. Subaru assures customers that efforts are underway to bolster the supply of these models.

The Outback XT and BRZ encounter wait times of three to four months, reflecting ongoing demand. Despite these delays, Subaru emphasizes that some models are readily available or require only a short waiting period of approximately one month upon order.

Managing Director Blair Read highlights the overall improvement in stock compared to the previous year but acknowledges existing lead times for select models.

The much-anticipated arrival of Subaru’s latest vehicle, the electric Solterra, is also underway at dealerships, with a current waiting period of approximately three to four months, depending on specifications and location.

Mr. Read expresses confidence in the company’s pipeline for the year ahead, with the potential for further expansion if necessary.

In 2023, Subaru experienced a notable surge in sales, marking a 28 percent increase with 46,114 vehicles delivered, marking its best performance since 2018. While the XV and Impreza saw a decline, other models thrived, with the BRZ leading as Australia’s best-selling sports car, witnessing a 35 percent increase.

The Forester also experienced a significant uptick of 54 percent due to enhanced supply, while the Outback saw a 32.5 percent improvement compared to the previous year. The WRX range observed a more modest growth of 14.7 percent in sales.
