The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, nearing a decade since its debut, is gearing up for its second, and likely final, facelift. While not an entirely new model, the upcoming 2025 iteration of this Triton-based SUV promises a revamped appearance and a power boost, as revealed in recent photos from Thailand.
Images surfaced online courtesy of Thai outlets Car250 and the Kurdistan Automotive Blog, showcasing the uncamouflaged facelifted Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The exterior updates include a fresh skid plate, revised upper and lower grilles, and a redesigned rear bumper, while new wheels add to the refreshed look.
Inside, the Thai-market Pajero Sport boasts a new steering wheel borrowed from the revamped Triton pickup. Noteworthy interior enhancements include quilted black leather seats with maroon side bolsters.
However, familiar features such as the digital instrument cluster, rotary drive mode selector, and touchscreen remain largely unchanged from the outgoing model’s GSR and Exceed grades.
According to reports from Car250, the Thailand-spec Pajero Sport is set to receive the Triton’s new ‘4N16’ 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel engine.
However, it’s likely to opt for the single-turbo variant rather than the twin-turbo version found in the Triton, resulting in outputs of 135kW/430Nm slightly higher than the outgoing Pajero Sport but lower than the Triton’s 150kW/470Nm figures.
Whether this drivetrain update will extend to Australia, along with potential changes to the transmission, remains uncertain. Expected to mark the final update for the current Pajero Sport generation, which debuted in 2015 and received its last tweak in late 2019, this facelift comes amid modest sales in Australia.
In 2023, the Pajero Sport recorded 5547 sales, making it Mitsubishi’s lowest-volume model Down Under. Nonetheless, it outperformed competitors like the Toyota Fortuner and LDV D90.
While Mitsubishi has yet to announce the official reveal date for the new Pajero Sport, speculation points to a possible debut at the upcoming Bangkok Motor Show later this month, given that the SUV is manufactured in Thailand.
