BMW is gearing up to introduce a lineup of electric vehicles under the Neue Klasse family, built on a next-generation platform promising enhanced power and efficiency. These forthcoming electric models will include a sedan and an SUV, positioned within the same segments as the 3-Series and X3, respectively.
The sedan iteration has already been teased with the Vision Neue Klasse concept showcased at the 2023 Munich auto show. Now, BMW is set to unveil the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, previewing the SUV variant, coinciding with the automaker’s annual general meeting on March 21 at its Munich headquarters.
A teaser image released on social media offers a sneak peek at the silhouette of the concept. Notably, the design cues, such as the window frames and A-pillar, resemble those seen in the earlier Vision Neue Klasse concept, hinting at a cohesive design language.
The production prototypes for the SUV have also been spotted, indicating the model’s progression towards mass production. The SUV is expected to be similar in size to the current X3 and could potentially carry the iX3 designation, aligning with BMW’s nomenclature for electric variants of its existing models.
Following the introduction of the initial sedan and SUV, BMW plans to roll out four more Neue Klasse EVs in rapid succession. These subsequent iterations may include variations like a wagon or a coupe-like crossover based on the original sedan and SUV platforms.
Production of the first Neue Klasse EV, likely the SUV, will commence at a new facility in Debrecen, Hungary, starting in 2025, with availability in the U.S. anticipated for the 2026 model year. Additionally, BMW plans to manufacture Neue Klasse EVs at existing plants in Germany and China from 2026 and in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, from 2027.
