Lexus Prepares For The Arrival Of RX Plug-In Hybrid In Australia

Lexus Australia is gearing up for the introduction of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of its RX SUV, slated to hit Australian shores around early 2025. With a cautious approach following past experiences, Lexus aims to ensure a smooth rollout of the RX PHEV.

John Pappas, CEO of Lexus Australia, confirmed plans to bring the RX plug-in hybrid to the market. However, the company is mindful of the challenges faced with the NX 450h+ and intends to avoid similar issues.

Learning from past supply chain disruptions, particularly semiconductor shortages exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Lexus prioritizes ensuring a steady stock flow before launching the RX PHEV.

Pappas emphasized the importance of gaining certainty regarding the production outlook to prevent order pauses and customer frustrations. By addressing potential supply chain constraints in advance, Lexus aims to provide a seamless experience for its customers.

The current-generation Lexus RX, introduced in 2022 and launched locally in early 2023, offers various petrol and hybrid powertrain options. The upcoming plug-in hybrid RX 450h+ shares its powertrain with the NX 450h+ and features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, and an 18.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

In the US market, the RX 450h+ boasts a total system output of 205 kW and an electric-only range of 59 km, according to EPA testing.

Upon its arrival in Australia, the RX 450h+ will compete with formidable rivals such as the Audi Q8 60 TFSI e, BMW X5 xDrive50e, Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve 4xe, Range Rover Sport P460e, and Volkswagen Touareg R.

As Lexus prepares to introduce the RX plug-in hybrid to the Australian market, the company remains committed to delivering innovation, performance, and sustainability in its lineup of premium SUVs.
