The Hyundai i30, now in its third generation, has posed a significant challenge to the Volkswagen Golf in the compact car segment. However, as time progresses, the i30 has started to show signs of aging. In response, Hyundai has announced a second refresh for the i30 lineup, focusing on incorporating technological advancements to keep pace with the industry’s transition toward electric vehicles.
With the global shift toward electric mobility, Hyundai has strategically positioned itself with its Ioniq lineup of electric vehicles, underpinned by the E-GMP platform. Despite this transition, Hyundai recognizes the ongoing demand for gas-powered models, exemplified by the continued production of the Kona lineup, which includes ICE and hybrid variants.
Amidst regulatory shifts in Europe favoring electric vehicles, there were speculations regarding the discontinuation of the i30 compact in favor of a new electric model. However, Hyundai has opted to give the i30 a significant refresh, ensuring its relevance for the coming years.
This refresh marks the second facelift for the i30, following updates in 2019, which introduced a new front fascia, engine options, and enhancements in driver assist and infotainment systems. While specific details regarding engine upgrades have not been announced, Hyundai’s approach seems to prioritize modest changes to design elements, including new colors and wheel options.
Inside the cabin, Hyundai has retained the familiar dashboard layout, incorporating new screens and technology upgrades. The driver assistance package has also been improved, with features like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Following Assist now standard across the lineup.
Production of the refreshed i30 is scheduled to commence in April at Hyundai’s production facility in Nošovice, Czech Republic. The lineup will continue to offer hatchback, wagon, and fastback variants, with an N-Line trim available for all body styles, boasting sportier aesthetics inside and out.
