The American automaker currently lacks a heavyweight muscle car, with the Mustang Dark Horse topping out at “only” 500 horsepower. Consequently, attention is turning to their previous-generation Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 electric drag racer as the ultimate solution.

Present at the National Hot Rod Association Winter Nationals, the prototype delivered a blistering quarter-mile pass in 7.759 seconds at 180.14 mph (298.9 kph), marking the second record for the Mustang Super Cobra Jet. However, if this model were to enter series production, it would necessitate a potent truck or SUV for transportation to and from the racetrack.

It’s interesting to note that this kind of car might have been unintentionally created by the creative industry of digital car content providers. Recently, Jim, a virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, has been toying with CGI renderings of Blue Oval creations.

Hence, the resurrection of the Excursion, reimagined to effortlessly haul a rig housing the electric racer, seems fitting. Despite the likelihood of the two never crossing paths, many Blue Oval enthusiasts would relish the sight of this unofficially resurrected Ford Excursion full-size SUV.

Some regard it as the “iconic gas-guzzling mom SUV of the century,” while others ponder its potential wheelbase. Regardless, virtually everyone approves of this hypothetical creation, drawing inspiration from the fifth-generation Ford Super Duty heavy-duty pickup truck’s styling for a colossal SUV.

The original class 2 heavy-duty SUV, the Ford Excursion, was produced by the Blue Oval company from 2000 to 2005, derived from the F-250 Super Duty. It stood as the longest and heaviest SUV in production at the time, a title now held only by the GMC Hummer EV SUV.

Jim’s passion for Ford and GM is evident, owning a 1986 Buick Regal T-type and a 2001 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning. It’s not the first time he has dreamt of reviving the massive Ford Excursion, especially inspired by Ford’s latest Super Duty styling. While some fans engage in discussions about design specifics, the overarching excitement surrounds the possibility of witnessing this imagined creation come to life.
