While the Fiat Moretti Sportiva may not be a household name among car enthusiasts today, it remains one of the most elegant Italian sports cars of the 1960s. Produced by the esteemed Moretti Motor Company, renowned for its masterful coachwork on Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Fiat platforms, the Sportiva exudes timeless style and sophistication.
Introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1965 and entering production in 1967, the Sportiva was based on the mechanicals of the Fiat 850, a compact rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive car.
Designed by Dany Brawand, the Swiss stylist behind numerous iconic cars, including the Moretti 124 Coupé and the Midimaxi, the Sportiva boasted a sleek exterior design that drew parallels to the Pininfarina-designed Fiat Dino Spider.
Retaining the Fiat 850’s original underpinnings, the Sportiva featured a rear-mounted 850cc engine producing 47 horsepower, mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Its compact dimensions and lightweight construction made it agile and spirited on the road.
Available initially as a two-seat coupe, the Sportiva later expanded its lineup to include a convertible and a four-seat variant. Despite its modest production numbers, the Sportiva garnered a dedicated following among enthusiasts, with fewer than half believed to have survived to the present day, adding to its allure as a collector’s gem.
One such rare specimen is the 1968 Sportiva S2, which has recently undergone a meticulous restoration to bring it back to its original glory. Adorned in a striking silver exterior and featuring a meticulously crafted interior, this Sportiva exemplifies Italian craftsmanship at its finest.
