It was a fine day, with clear weather and excellent visibility. The driver, reportedly the long-time Porsche factory driver and brand ambassador Patrick Long, was in good condition when he took the Turbo Mule prototype, a modified Porsche 911 by Gunther Werks, out on the Laguna Seca track.
However, the prototype returned to the pits on a flatbed truck, with its roof crushed and windows shattered following a crash. Despite the severe damage to the vehicle, Long miraculously escaped injury.
This was attributed to his use of full FIA racing gear, including a fire suit, helmet, and a HANS device. The Gunther Werks team, responsible for the prototype, assured followers that safety was a top priority, and they were now diligently working to repair the damaged vehicle.
The prototype, which previews the production version called the Gunther Werks Turbo, suffered damage during a testing session at WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca. The team explained that the vehicle had not yet been fitted with certain safety features, such as a roll cage, as it was intended for road use.
Despite this setback, they are committed to ensuring the production version will be safe and reliable. The modified Porsche boasts significant upgrades, including a full carbon fiber body and a powerful twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing over 750 horsepower.
While repairs to the prototype may be challenging, Gunther Werks remains dedicated to delivering the production version to customers without delay.
