Mate Rimac recently teased an upcoming affordable Rimac model on social media, hinting at something special arriving this summer. According to the CEO of the hypercar manufacturer, this new model will be a hatchback.

The announcement of a Rimac hatchback came as a surprise to many, considering Rimac’s reputation for producing super-fast, expensive, limited-edition models. However, Mate Rimac assures that a significant shift is on the horizon.

He reveals that the new hatchback will serve as the successor to the Yugo, a subcompact hatchback that gained popularity in the 1980s and 1990s. While some skepticism arises from Mate Rimac’s Instagram caption, considering it’s April Fool, the revealing of a rendering labeled as the “Yugo successor” seems intriguing.

While it’s unlikely that Rimac will revive the defunct Soviet model, the company’s plans for a modern interpretation of the Yugo remain uncertain. Just weeks ago, the CEO nearly revealed the successor to the Chiron, hinting at exciting developments in the automotive world.

The new model has already been showcased to select customers in Miami, Florida, hinting at its significance in Bugatti’s 116-year history. Although details are sparse, it’s confirmed that the future model will depart from the traditional W16 engine, opting for an 8.3-liter V16 integrated into a hybrid system.

Additionally, the Bugatti-Rimac CEO revealed insights into the Mobility P3 robotaxi project, slated for launch in the UK in 2027. This innovative service aims to provide autonomous transportation similar to Uber, marking a significant milestone in automotive technology. While June promises to be a busy month for Bugatti Rimac, the revival of the Yugo seems unlikely.
