Fisker Inc., based in Los Angeles, faces a safety probe into its Ocean electric sport utility vehicle following 14 complaints related to the door latch and handle issues. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigation initiated a preliminary evaluation (PE24010) to assess safety concerns, including intermittent door latch failures and difficulty opening doors reported by owners.
With an estimated 6,813 vehicles potentially affected, Fisker’s financial troubles compounded the situation, resulting in a pause in Ocean production in March 2024. Despite these challenges, Fisker remains committed to addressing safety issues and resuming production by the end of April.
The Ocean, priced between $38,999 and $61,499, faces competition from Tesla’s Model Y in the burgeoning electric SUV market. Fisker’s focus on safety and production reliability will be critical in restoring consumer confidence and securing its position in the EV world.
