Following its grand debut earlier in the year, the updated Volkswagen Golf is now preparing for launch in the United Kingdom. Volkswagen has released pricing details for the hatchback and station wagon variants. The hatchback lineup comprises three trim levels: Life, Match, and Style, with prices starting at £27,035 for the base model, equivalent to $34,165 at current exchange rates.
This represents a modest £80 ($100) increase compared to its predecessor. In contrast, the similarly sized and more premium BMW 1 Series starts at £28,740 ($36,320) in the UK, with the entry-level 118i SE featuring a gasoline engine producing 134 hp (136 ps/100 kW) and a standard manual transmission.
The base Volkswagen Golf also offers a manual transmission and a less powerful 1.5L TSI engine generating 113 hp (115 ps/85 kW). Additionally, Volkswagen offers a mild-hybrid eTSI powertrain with the same output as the base variant but equipped with a DSG automatic transmission.
Another option is the 1.5-liter TSI engine with 148 hp (150 ps/110 kW) paired with a manual transmission or the 1.5L eTSI mild-hybrid variant with automatic transmission.
The R-Line version of the 2024 Volkswagen Golf will be available for order starting April 25, featuring 17-inch Coventry alloys, LED headlamps, a reversing camera, a 12.9-inch infotainment system, a heated sports steering wheel, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, and a choice between the 1.5L TSI 150 manual and the 1.5L eTSI 150 DSG engines.
Pricing for the hatchback starts at £30,285 ($38,275), while the wagon version starts at £31,650 ($40,000). The eHybrid, GTI, and GTE models are expected to go on sale in mid-2024.
