Ahead of its public revealing, Forbes prematurely published a story on the 2025 Toyota 4Runner, revealing significant details about the upcoming model. The 2025 4Runner, continuing its tradition as a body-on-frame SUV with three-row seating, incorporates styling cues from the Tacoma while offering a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid option.
The 2.4-liter engine delivers 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, while the hybrid variant, known as i-FORCE MAX, generates 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Notably, towing capacity has increased to 6,000 pounds compared to the previous model, aligning with the Land Cruiser 250 series.
The 4Runner is available in rear-wheel drive, part-time 4WD, and full-time 4WD configurations, all equipped with a two-speed transfer case. Off-road capabilities are enhanced with features like an automatic limited-slip differential and optional locking differentials.
The 2025 model is slightly larger than its predecessor, offering increased interior space. However, longer overhangs result in slightly reduced approach and departure angles. The lineup includes a new Trailhunter grade, designed for rock crawling enthusiasts, alongside the TRD Pro and TRD Off-Road variants.
Inside, the 4Runner shares design elements with the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, featuring a digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Pricing details are expected to be announced closer to the fall release date.
