In 1976, Randy Honkala celebrated his 18th birthday by purchasing his first car. So, who is Randy Honkala? Hang tight, and we’ll get to that. In 1976, he proudly acquired a six-year-old Ford Mustang from the Ford Motor Company. Not just any Mustang, though it was a Grabber Blue Ford Mustang Boss 302 from 1970.

Now, one might assume this marked the beginning of his automotive journey, but that assumption would miss the mark. Fast forward 57 years and 300 cars later, here we find him, newly retired and relishing in his childhood dream a 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT survivor.

If this were a spoken tale, now would be the perfect moment for a mic drop. Randy’s passion for cars has spanned over 200 Ford Motor Company vehicles and 100 other brands, including a plethora of notable classics.

The trailer arrived in front of Randy’s house on July 28, 2023, precisely 57 years and one day after the coveted comic book hero first changed hands. The wait was over, but the joy had only just begun. Randy still finds it surreal to be behind the wheel of his childhood dream machine, a car that remains almost entirely original a testament to its careful preservation by previous owners.

With 57,000 miles on the odometer, this Cyclone had been well cared for and regularly driven, ensuring its mechanical integrity over the years. Randy’s extensive car collection includes iconic models, but none hold the same place in his heart as his cherished 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT.
