The highly anticipated BYD Shark ute is nearing its official debut, and a recent sighting has revealed the plug-in hybrid dual-cab without any camouflage. The 2025 BYD Shark plug-in hybrid ute has made an early appearance, captured undisguised in Mexico.

AutoDinámico shared a video showcasing the BYD Shark, showcasing its distinctive design elements as it was being transported on a tilt-tray tow truck in Mexico. The vehicle’s striking features include a full-width LED light bar leading to C-shaped headlights, accentuating the prominent BYD logo on its grille.

Additionally, the ute boasts a rugged silver bash plate, complemented by black front and rear bumper moldings, wheel arch protectors, and a rear sports bar positioned behind the rear window and on the rear tub.

The wheels of the BYD Shark display a machined face with black spokes, accompanied by black highlights on the side steps and window pillars. Scheduled for release in Australia in the second half of 2024, the BYD Shark has already been spotted undergoing testing with its plug-in hybrid configuration.

Reports from overseas suggest that the initial launch of the BYD ute will feature a plug-in hybrid system, combining a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors to deliver a total system output of 365kW. Previous interior sneak peeks have revealed a center console-mounted shifter, physical toggle switches, a standalone digital instrument cluster, and a rotatable infotainment screen.

While pricing details for the BYD Shark are yet to be disclosed, it is anticipated to become the brand’s highest-priced model available locally, surpassing the $68,748 before on-road costs of the Seal sedan.
