The year 1970 marked a significant downturn for the goat, unbeknownst to the world. Sales plummeted drastically, with only 10,532 units sold, predominantly hardtops at 9,497 units, while convertibles were a rarity, numbering only 661. It also signaled the swan song for the convertible and the Judge, with a mere 357 hardtops and 17 convertibles receiving the coveted Judge treatment in 1971.

Among the last convertibles produced, the 1971 GTO showcased in these photos stands in remarkable condition, boasting a color seldom seen. While I usually refrain from commentary on visual aesthetics, the seller deserves commendation for capturing the car’s essence splendidly. Meticulous restoration efforts in the early 2000s rejuvenated this GTO, priming it for the spotlight at car shows.

Equipped with coveted features like the Ram Air hood, AM/FM radio, custom sport wheel, functional air conditioning, and a correct 4-speed transmission (likely non-original), this GTO exudes authenticity. Although the interior exhibits signs of age, the Castillian Bronze exterior remains striking, free of rust, with pristine undersides.

Powered by the L78 400 V8 engine, boasting 300 horsepower, this GTO starts, runs, and drives flawlessly, fitting for a showpiece. Requiring only minor attention to the cabin and body, it’s poised for a new home in a collector’s heated garage, as affirmed by seller Ricksgoats, who guarantees the car’s restoration and provides PHS documentation and additional papers confirming its options.

While bidding approaches the reserve value of $48,600, the Buy It Now option offers the opportunity to secure this convertible for $58,000, ensuring its legacy continues to fascinate enthusiasts for years to come.
