Smart, the car brand known for tiny city cars, is going big! They just revealed the #5, their first-ever midsize electric SUV concept. This Smart is all about size. It boasts a huge battery pack (over 100 kWh) for an impressive 341-mile range on a single charge. Plus, it can fast-charge from 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes!
The #5 concept has a rugged design with raised ride height, chunky tires, and skid plates. It even has a winch and a light bar! While some of these features might not make it to the production version, the design suggests Smart might be entering the off-road electric SUV market.
Inside, the #5 features a modern dashboard with three screens: a driver’s display and two infotainment screens (one for the front passenger). These screens use fancy OLED technology and a powerful chip for smooth performance. The car will also have an AI assistant for voice interaction.
The #5 concept also boasts comfortable “zero-gravity” front seats, though Smart doesn’t provide details on what that exactly means. Smart seems excited about this new direction. Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe, calls the #5 “the most unexpected and versatile car” they’ve ever made.
They see it opening doors to a whole new group of customers in Europe and around the world. We’ll see the #5 concept officially revealed later this week at the Beijing Motor Show. Expect the production version to be revealed and launched by the end of this year in China and Europe.
