The electric vehicle drag strip competition has a new champion with the introduction of the Lucid Air Sapphire, dethroning the Tesla Model S Plaid as the fastest stock four-door sedan in a quarter-mile. Boasting an impressive 8.93-second quarter-mile time, the Air Sapphire leaves other EVs in its wake, showcasing its dominance on the drag strip.
Powered by three formidable motors generating 1,234 horsepower, the Lucid Air Sapphire is not just about speed but also luxury and comfort. Its acceleration is staggering, reaching 97 km/h in a mere 1.89 seconds and achieving a top speed of 330 km/h with the slightest tap of the accelerator pedal.
Tests conducted by DragTimes revealed the Lucid Air Sapphire’s exceptional performance, clocking a quarter-mile time of under nine seconds and an astonishing 0-97 km/h time of 1.7 seconds, surpassing its closest competitor, the Tesla Model S Plaid, which previously held the production four-door drag strip record.
While the Tesla Model S Plaid features a three-motor configuration with 1,020 horsepower, it falls short in comparison to the raw power and acceleration capabilities of the Lucid Air Sapphire. With its cutting-edge design and premium features, the Sapphire sets a new standard for high-performance electric luxury vehicles.
However, such unrivaled speed and luxury come at a significant price. The Lucid Air Sapphire commands a starting price of €232,000 in the US, with the European market also gaining access to the Sapphire version, albeit at a slightly higher starting price of €250,000.
