Despite the departure from its V-8 predecessor, the RHO inherits key components from the outgoing Ram TRX, including its robust features, long-travel suspension, and bold wide-body design.
Additionally, the RHO incorporates elements from the redesigned Ram 1500 lineup, featuring a revamped front end, upgraded interior, and various new features. The RHO’s engine, a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six dubbed the “Hurricane,” generates 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque.
While this marks a reduction from the TRX’s power output, the six-cylinder setup offers benefits such as a lighter weight, improved front axle balance, and enhanced fuel efficiency. Expected to achieve 15 mpg city and 21 highway, the RHO offers a more economical alternative to the TRX’s fuel consumption.
Despite the shift in powertrain, the RHO maintains impressive performance capabilities, boasting a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.1 seconds at 105 mph. Its off-road prowess is underscored by features such as a fortified frame, adaptive Bilstein dampers, and chunky 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires.
Inside, the RHO benefits from technological advancements seen across the 2025 Ram 1500 lineup, including a standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and an available 14.5-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5 software. Additional features such as a 360-degree camera system, a digital rearview mirror, and massaging front seats further enhance the driving experience.
While the acronym “RHO” remains ambiguous in its meaning, clues suggest it may stand for “rhino,” aligning with the project’s internal codename and the presence of a rhinoceros image on the center console badge.
