Mazda recently showcased two new cars at the Beijing Motor Show: the EZ-6 sedan and the Arata concept crossover. The EZ-6, set for production, features a modern design and advanced technology. It’s important to note that the EZ-6 was designed by Changan Mazda Automobile, a joint venture between Changan (a Chinese government-owned company) and Mazda. The sedan represents a futuristic take on Mazda’s previous model, the 6.
The EZ-6 sports Mazda’s signature design elements with sharper headlights and sleek body lines. Inside, it boasts voice and gesture controls for various functions. Mazda prioritized handling, aiming to create a seamless connection between the car and the driver.
While specific technical details are not yet available, Mazda confirmed that the EZ-6 will offer both plug-in hybrid and electric drivetrain options. The electric version is expected to have a range of about 372 miles, while the plug-in hybrid could reach up to 621 miles. The sedan will come with rear-wheel drive as standard, and it’s slightly larger than the outgoing Mazda 6.
Less information is available about the Arata concept crossover, which is still in development. Mazda described it as appealing to sophisticated Chinese consumers with a futuristic design.
The EZ-6 is scheduled to go on sale in China by the end of 2024, with the Arata expected to follow in 2025. It’s uncertain whether these models will be available in other markets like the United States. Mazda enthusiasts hope for a new sedan like the 6, but its success will depend on how Mazda positions it in the market. If marketed effectively as a premium option, it could find success among buyers seeking alternatives to luxury models like the Audi A4.
