Remember that crazy fast, one-of-a-kind Lotus Evija X we saw testing at the Nurburgring last year? Well, it’s finally here! This electric track car just set a very specific record at the famous race track.

The Evija X clocked a lap time of 6 minutes and 24 seconds, making it the fastest car with a production car chassis to ever lap the Nurburgring. That means it beat out super fast cars like the Mercedes-AMG One, but there’s a catch.

The Design and Story of Lotus Evija

The Evija X Isn’t Exactly Street Legal

The Mercedes-AMG One can actually be driven on the road, while the Evija X is strictly for the track. That technicality keeps the Evija X off the top of the overall fastest car list at the Nurburgring. The Volkswagen ID.R and Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo hold those titles, with even faster lap times.

There have also been other super quick laps at the Nurburgring, like the 1983 runs by Stefan Bellof and Jochen Mass in their 956 cars.

Evija X Aims for Even Faster Speeds

Lotus isn’t done with the Evija X yet. The car completed its record-breaking lap on a wet track, so they believe there’s room for improvement. They’re hinting at a possible return to the Nurburgring to try for a faster lap time. Stay tuned.

This track-focused Evija X features some special equipment to achieve its blistering speeds, including massive wings, special tires, and carbon fiber brakes. Under the hood (or wherever electric cars keep their power!), it shares the same setup as the street-legal Evija, with four electric motors producing over 2,000 horsepower.

Speaking of the street-legal Evija, production has finally begun after many years of waiting. Only 130 of these electric hypercars will be built, so if you’re interested, you might need to act fast.
