Jimmy Fallon experienced a surprise during his first drive of the Ford F-150 Lightning. He discovered it when he checked the load bed and found Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, waiting there.
At home, Fallon already owns a Ford F-150, which he fell in love with at first sight. With two children, Winnie Rose, 11, and Frances Cole, 10, the spaciousness of the truck is a necessity for him. He was amazed at the amount of space he suddenly had.
During his first test drive of the F-150 Lightning, hosted by Jim Farley, Fallon was greeted with America’s top-selling electric pickup, primed for the racetrack. Fallon found another surprise waiting for him as well: a popcorn machine on the open tailgate, placed there by Farley to remind Fallon of his pickup.
Fallon is no stranger to popcorn machines; he has one in his truck for his children and a restored classic Manley popcorn machine at home. He refers to his home life with his wife and daughters as being like a “loud Irish family.”
Knowing his way around, Fallon expertly used the step to access the truck bed, and while snacking on popcorn, he marveled at the multiple outlets available. He commented on the truck’s roominess, mentioning how he uses it to haul pumpkins, a typical task before Halloween.
Upon inspecting the cabin of the F-150 Lightning, Fallon was overly enthusiastic, exclaiming, “You crushed the game with this one,” and expressed his approval by patting the leather on the driver’s seat.
Wearing a helmet and visibly thrilled, he started driving and honking, jokingly asking if they could go to space. Once he accelerated, he described the truck’s power as “insane,” a comment Farley attributed to the instant torque from the dual motors.
Though the electric truck felt like a rocket, Fallon kept his speed below 90 mph despite the truck’s capability of reaching 110 mph. Throughout the drive, he was astonished, exclaiming, “Oh, my God!” multiple times. After stepping off, he kissed the ground and had one last request for Ford’s CEO: “Would you tell my wife that I was very adventurous and sportsman-like?”
