Rivian makes electric vehicles (EVs) that many people like, but they can be expensive. However, Rivian plans to introduce a new R2 platform that will have smaller and more affordable models. But it seems like Rivian is also considering making more expensive versions with a lot of power.

Some people on the Rivian Reddit page talked about getting a survey from Rivian. The survey asked if they would pay extra for a high-performance R2 SUV.

Rivian asked these owners about how much they would pay, how fast they would want the SUV to go, and what features they would like. While the basic R2 might start at around $40,000, a more powerful version could cost $70,000 or even more. Rivian also talked about a cheaper option, a single-motor rear-drive model that can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 7.5 seconds.

The R2 won’t be available for almost two years, and Rivian has recently laid off some workers as they try to make more money. Their current models, like the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV, can cost over $100,000 with all the options. Plus, there’s only a small discount available for buying an electric car, making them too expensive for many people.

Rivian has been more stable compared to other new EV companies. For example, Fisker has been struggling for a while. They’re looking for money from other car companies, and their first car didn’t get good reviews. Maybe someone will buy them out, but it’s hard to say for sure. It usually takes more than just interest to save a struggling car company.
