The second-generation BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupe (SAC), which might be seen as stylish or tacky depending on your perspective, has made its way to Australia. This lineup includes the all-electric iX2 and the performance-oriented X2 M35i xDrive.

BMW launched this latest version of the X2 in early October 2023, debuting it at the first Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, a successor to the nearly 70-year-old Tokyo Motor Show. The model started arriving in the U.S. in March 2024 after receiving several pre-sale enhancements, such as the option for matte paint finishes.

Since its inception in 2017, the BMW X2 series of subcompact luxury crossover SUVs is now ready to debut its second iteration in Australia. This release includes a full range of models, notably the “first X2 with a fully electric powertrain, the iX2 xDrive30.” Before this, the entry-level electric model, the iX2 eDrive20, will launch later in the year.

The most budget-friendly model in Australia will be the xDrive20i, featuring 150 kW (201 horsepower), all-wheel drive, and a starting price of AUD 75,900, roughly USD 49,123. This compares to a lower starting price of USD 42,000 in the U.S., where the equivalent purchase buys you the X2 xDrive28i with 241 horsepower.

Australian customers also have exclusive access to the all-electric iX2, which is unavailable in the U.S. The iX2 xDrive20 and iX2 xDrive30 are priced at AUD 82,900 and AUD 85,700, respectively (USD 53,696 and USD 55,512), featuring power outputs of 201 hp and 308 horsepower and offering ranges of up to 455 km or 395 km, respectively.

The new X2 also includes several technological advancements, such as a standard seven-speed double-clutch transmission in gasoline models, a wide range of automated driving and parking systems, and cutting-edge digital services like BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9. So, are you considering purchasing an X2?
