Cadillac Optiq Revealed A Closer Look At The Electric Crossover's Debut In China

During its market debut in China, Cadillac has revealed the details of its newest electric crossover, the Optiq. The Lyriq Optiq took center stage at the 2024 Beijing Motor Show, shedding light on the available drivetrains for the crossover’s launch in China. In China, the base Optiq is presented in a Standard version, featuring a front-wheel-drive, single-motor setup delivering 180kW and 330Nm.

Equipped with a 68.4kWh battery pack, this variant boasts an impressive 536km driving range under the CLTC standard. On the other hand, the Long Range model offers a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration, generating a combined output of 211kW and 465Nm.

Paired with a larger 79.7kWh battery, it achieves a remarkable 600km range in CLTC testing. The pricing for the Optiq begins at 239,700 yuan ($51,000) for the Standard variant and 269,700 yuan ($57,400) for the Long Range model.

With dimensions measuring 4822mm in length, 1912mm in width, and 1642mm in height, riding on a 2954mm wheelbase, the Optiq stands out. It surpasses the Tesla Model Y in length by 72mm while being narrower by 66mm and taller by 18mm. Compared to the rear- and all-wheel-drive Lyriq, it is 174mm shorter and notably smaller than the three-row Vistiq.

Inside, the Optiq offers seating for up to five passengers, with a spacious boot providing 441L of storage capacity with the rear seats up and expanding to 1362L when folded down. Standard features in China include advanced safety technologies like autonomous emergency braking, along with luxurious amenities such as dual-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof, and perforated leather seats.

The interior is highlighted by a 33-inch curved screen housing the instrumentation display and infotainment system, complemented by wireless Apple CarPlay support and a premium AKG sound system.

For Chinese customers opting for the top-tier Optiq Long Range, GM’s Super Cruise driver assistance features include, featuring lane centering assist, automated lane changing, and driver attention monitoring. Production of the Optiq has already commenced at the SAIC-GM joint venture factory in Wuhan, with sales expected to kick off soon in China.

While the Optiq has been confirmed for markets like Canada, the US, and Mexico, its production locations for these regions remain undisclosed. However, reports suggest that North American models may be manufactured in Mexico, potentially qualifying for the US federal tax credit.

Although GM has not confirmed the Optiq’s availability in Australia, it has trademarked the Optiq name along with other models, hinting at future possibilities. Currently, Cadillac’s local relaunch in Australia is centered around the Lyriq crossover, which is slated to arrive later this year and will be produced in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
