Celebrating its 60th anniversary last month, the Ford Mustang revealed a limited-edition 60th Anniversary package for the 2025 model year, with only 1,965 units available, making it a coveted collector’s item.
Despite facing a slight decline in sales compared to the same period in 2023, the Mustang maintained its dominance in the American ‘muscle car’ segment, outperforming its discontinued rivals, the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, during the first quarter of the year. This success extended globally, with the Mustang retaining its title as the best-selling sports car worldwide in 2023.
Among the most popular variants is the Mustang GT, powered by the iconic 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, now delivering an impressive 480 hp (or 486 hp with the optional active exhaust system).
This performance is evident not only at dealerships worldwide but also on local quarter-mile dragstrips, where the Mustang GT continues to impress enthusiasts.
An intriguing encounter at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway highlighted the Mustang’s prowess as a white S550 Ford Mustang GT faced off against a newer S650 Ford Mustang GT. Despite the S650’s power advantage, the S550’s strategic pre-race burnout and experienced handling secured victory, showcasing the enduring legacy of the Mustang on the dragstrip.
Eager to redeem itself, the blue S650 Mustang returned for another race, this time against a front-wheel-drive Honda Civic. With optimized tire traction, the S650 emerged victorious, reaffirming its performance capabilities in diverse racing scenarios.
