The question of whether there’s a market for premium or luxury pickup trucks has been explored multiple times. While Mercedes-Benz’s attempt with the X-Class, based on the Nissan Navara, ended in failure, no major automaker seems eager to follow suit.
Despite the absence of interest from established manufacturers, digital renderings of upscale pickups have proliferated in recent years. One such example comes from spdesignsest, who recently shared an illustration envisioning a Bentley Bentayga with an open-bed design.
This hypothetical creation features significant modifications, including reshaped rear doors, a shortened roofline ending above the C-pillars, and an open bed accessible via a tailgate. Additional changes include new vertical taillamps and a redesigned rear bumper.
While the concept of a Bentayga-based pickup may appeal to some, practical considerations limit its off-road capabilities. Sharing its platform with the Volkswagen Touareg, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, and Lamborghini Urus, the Bentayga lacks the rugged body-on-frame construction necessary for serious off-road adventures.
Despite these limitations, the concept highlights the ongoing fascination with luxury pickups and prompts speculation about their potential market appeal. However, without the structural foundation for true off-road prowess, such vehicles may struggle to compete with purpose-built 4x4s.
