With the 2024 model year, Dodge’s eighth-generation Charger takes a unique approach, blending elements of its heritage with an eye toward the future of EVs and downsizing. Some argue this dual focus gives it a distinctive, if unconventional, appearance.
The all-new 2024 Dodge Charger continues the tradition of merging the two-door fastback coupe body style with the four-door sedan design, reminiscent of the L-bodied Charger and Challenger. Initial offerings include two EV powertrains for select models, delivering impressive horsepower figures of up to 496 or 670, courtesy of electric power.
For those who prefer the roar of an ICE-powered engine, Dodge offers an alternative with the introduction of the 2025 Charger Sixpack. This model replaces the iconic Hemi V8 with a new 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six, offering standard and high output versions with 420 and 550 horsepower, respectively.
While enthusiasts may lament the departure of the V8, the new inline-six promises a thrilling driving experience. A recent showcase at Island Dragway highlighted the Charger’s prowess in quarter-mile dragstrip action.
Among its challengers were a C7 Chevrolet Corvette and an old-school Dodge Ram pickup, both of which fell to the modern Charger. Even a Dodge Challenger couldn’t outpace its sibling, showcasing the Charger’s dominance on the track.
Given the choice between a V8-powered Daytona and the all-new 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV, the decision ultimately comes down to personal preference. Each offers its own unique driving experience, blending the heritage of the past with the innovation of the future.
