In 1965, Chevrolet produced 23,562 Corvettes, with the convertible remaining the preferred choice among customers, with 15,376 units produced. The introduction of the L78 engine mid-year marked a significant milestone.
Before the L78’s debut, the top choice was the L84, a 327 V8 with fuel injection, delivering 375 horsepower. However, both Chevrolet and customers desired more power for the Corvette. Thus, the L78 was born, boasting a 396 cubic-inch displacement and 425 horsepower.
Opting for the L78 was a no-brainer from a cost perspective, as it was cheaper than the fuel-injected unit. Only 771 Vettes were fitted with fuel injection in 1965. One such rarity recently surfaced on eBay. Offered by Re-tired Klassics, this Corvette is not only one of 771 with fuel injection but also one of 3,782 painted in Glen Green.
While details about any restoration work are scarce, the car appears to be in pristine condition, with a powerful and well-maintained L84 engine. Despite failing to meet the reserve price on eBay, this Corvette is priced at $85,950 for those eager to own a piece of automotive history.
