Next year, Jeep will offer a new color called Tuscadero Pink for the exterior of the Gladiator. The company will also introduce a new powertrain option called the 4xe trim. Antonio Filosa, the CEO of Jeep, confirmed this news in a recent LinkedIn post.
He said, “Next year, we’ll extend that freedom of choice even further with a Gladiator 4xe option (colors to be announced) that will join the No. 1 and No. 2 best-selling plug-in hybrids in the U.S, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe.”
In the past, the only engine option for the Gladiator was the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 after Jeep removed the EcoDiesel option last year. But now, with the 4xe trim, the Gladiator will have a plug-in hybrid option. This means it will use less fuel and be more powerful. The V6 engine currently makes 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
If Jeep engineers keep the same powertrain for the Gladiator 4xe, it will have 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. This power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a starter/generator, and an electric motor in the eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s expected to have an all-electric range of around 20 miles.
However, the Gladiator 4xe will be more expensive than the regular version. For example, the Wrangler 4xe, a similar model, starts at nearly $18,000 more than the non-hybrid version. So, the Gladiator 4xe might start at around $56,000 before any additional charges. There could be a tax credit of $3,750 available to help with the cost.
Jeep also has plans to introduce more electric options in its lineup. The battery-electric Wagoneer S is expected to arrive later this year, followed by the battery-electric Recon. Range-extended versions of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are scheduled for release in 2025, according to the latest UAW contact with Stellantis.
