The newest generation (W214) of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is set to hit Australian dealerships this week with a starting price of AUD 131,500. This price, although equivalent to nearly $87k, is based on the Manufacturer’s Recommended List Price (MRLP) and includes GST and any applicable luxury car tax (LCT) for the base model but excludes on-road costs.
Compared to the American market, where the E-Class starts at $62,300 for the E 350 4Matic sedan and $68,100 for the E 450 4Matic sedan, the Australian pricing appears significantly higher. The entry-level model for Australia, the E 300 sedan, boasts an advanced 190 kW (255 hp) turbocharged mild-hybrid petrol engine, similar to the American E 350, albeit without 4Matic all-wheel drive.
Paired with the revised 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission and enhanced electronics architecture, the E-Class promises a blend of performance and efficiency. Additionally, cutting-edge features such as AI-based personalization, MBUX Superscreen, and a Digital Vehicle Key further raise the driving experience, albeit with limited compatibility with Apple devices.
Despite the rich heritage of the E-Class, spanning over 16 million units sold globally since 1946, the W214 iteration faces stiff competition in today’s market. The base model in Australia, however, comes standard with the AMG Line exterior package and a host of premium features, including the latest MBUX infotainment system, 5G connectivity, and a 730-watt Burmester 4D surround sound system.
With ample interior space and a generous trunk capacity of 540 liters, the E-Class aims to maintain its status as a top contender in the luxury sedan segment.
