Lucid is planning to release a new SUV called the Gravity later this year. But even before that, they have filed trademark applications for another electric SUV, expected to be smaller and more affordable. It’s called the “Earth.” This new model is set to arrive in 2026, following the Gravity.
The trademark application lists three names: Earth, Lucid Earth, and Earth Dream Edition. Lucid aims to start making these in 2026, and they’re expected to be the cheapest among Lucid’s lineup. The Earth SUV will be similar in size to the Tesla Model Y and is anticipated to cost less than $50,000.
During Lucid’s first-quarter earnings call, CEO Peter Rawlinson confirmed the Earth SUV. He mentioned that it would be priced around $48,000 and emphasized the company’s commitment to achieving exceptional efficiency for the range customers expect.
The Earth SUV is crucial for Lucid’s success, but it faces stiff competition. While Lucid is gearing up for the Earth, rivals like Tesla might be updating their own offerings. The Tesla Model Y, for example, is due for a refresh, although recent issues at Tesla could affect their plans.
Despite support from the Saudi Arabian government, Lucid’s future is uncertain. While they saw an increase in deliveries in the first quarter of this year compared to last year, they’re still falling short of analyst expectations. Rawlinson hopes the Gravity SUV will help increase sales volume, but Lucid is facing losses per unit delivered. To become profitable, Lucid will need to find ways to reduce production costs and improve efficiency in their supply chain.
