This car marks a significant milestone in automotive history as the first Porsche 911 to bear the Turbo designation. Scheduled to debut at the Concours d’Elegance at Hampton Court Palace this summer, this model signifies a historic moment for Porsche enthusiasts worldwide.
The journey began in 1973 when this model made its debut as a show car at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with its official launch following at the Paris Motor Show the next year. Sporting a 3.0-liter engine delivering 256 horsepower, it quickly claimed the title of Germany’s fastest road sports car, boasting a top speed of 155 mph (250 kph).
The 911 Turbo 3.0 went into production in 1975, followed by the 911 Turbo 3.3 in 1977, boasting an impressive 296 horsepower. Over the years, Porsche continued to refine and enhance the Turbo lineup, introducing Targa and Convertible versions in 1987 and launching a new 911 Turbo in 1991 with even more power.
With each generation, Porsche pushed the boundaries of performance, culminating in the current model with a biturbo engine producing 572 horsepower and a top-of-the-line version reaching a remarkable 640 horsepower. Despite its evolution, the spirit of the original Turbo remains iconic, symbolizing Porsche’s commitment to innovation and performance excellence.
The first-ever Porsche 911 Turbo, with its modest 256 horsepower, will proudly grace the Concours d’Elegance at Hampton Court Palace, showcasing its timeless significance in automotive history.
