Alpine’s Alpenglow concept, initially showcased in late 2022, has transitioned from a symbolic design project to a tangible reality. Renault, Alpine’s parent company, revealed the first rolling version, named Alpine Alpenglow Hy4, which will debut at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit on May 10 before making its track debut at the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps endurance race.
The Alpenglow Hy4 prototype features a hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine aimed at demonstrating the compatibility of performance and sustainable development.
Equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine fueled by hydrogen, the prototype boasts 335 horsepower and utilizes a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque and LMP3-style chassis for optimal performance.
Renault and Alpine aim to showcase the potential of hydrogen combustion engine technology on the track while emphasizing innovation and performance. Despite slight modifications from the original design study, such as a redesigned crash box and a larger interior, the Alpenglow Hy4 prototype remains true to its vision of combining sustainability with high performance.
