Bugatti has shown its new car, which follows the Chiron, to some customers. Now, many rumors are spreading about the car, although they are not confirmed yet.
One confirmed detail is about the engine. The new car will have a V16 engine instead of the Chiron’s W16 engine. The CEO of Bugatti-Rimac, Mate Rimac, shared more details at a car summit in London. He said the engine is 39.4 inches long, much longer than the Chiron’s engine. With the hybrid part, it’s almost two meters long.
This new engine idea had to be approved by the company. Some years ago, when Stephan Winkelmann was in charge of Bugatti, he talked about making an electric SUV. But Mate Rimac convinced the bosses that a fully electric car wasn’t the best idea. Now, they are making this powerful hybrid engine instead.
This new engine doesn’t have turbos. It’s a V16 engine, similar to the one in the Cizeta V16T. Bugatti got help from Cosworth to develop this engine. It’s expected to produce around 1,000 horsepower on its own. It will have a hybrid part, adding another 800 horsepower.
The hybrid part includes three electric motors and a big battery. The battery can give the car about 60 kilometers of electric-only driving. This is more than what other performance hybrid cars can offer.
The new car is expected to weigh less than 4,400 pounds, which is quite light for a car with such high power. It should be very fast, reaching speeds of 62 mph in just two seconds.
Bugatti will reveal this new car next month. The production might be limited to only 300 units or even fewer.
